Overview
Heading from Jeddah to Makkah via Yalamlam miqat, a set point for Umrah, your car first drives south to As-Sa’diyyah. The mosque there is about 130 km south of Makkah, says Saudipedia, the Saudi national encyclopedia. People put on ihram, the state of Umrah in which men wear two white cloths, at this mosque. Then your driver turns north for your Makkah hotel. The trip is about 290 km, from Jeddah Airport or any Jeddah address.
The trip from Jeddah to Makkah with a stop at the Yalamlam miqat costs from SAR 450 per vehicle. Your driver goes south to the miqat mosque at As-Sa’diyyah and waits up to 45 minutes while you enter ihram. He then drives you north to your hotel in Makkah. Allow 4 to 5 hours for the whole trip, stop included.

Yalamlam and As-Sa’diyyah
Sahih al-Bukhari reports that the Prophet, peace be upon him, named Yalamlam as the miqat of the people of Yemen. Saudipedia says it also serves the south of Saudi Arabia and anyone who comes that way.
Yalamlam is the name of a large valley. Its floods start in the mountains south west of Taif and run west to the Red Sea. The old miqat site lies about 21 km from the mosque that people use today. That newer mosque stands at As-Sa’diyyah (also written Sadiyah), on the north bank of the valley, near an old well. Both lie in Al-Lith Governorate, a coastal area south of Jeddah.
The mosque covers about 10,000 square metres and holds more than 4,000 people at prayer. It has a hall for visitors, washrooms and places for wudu, the washing before prayer. A marble slab at the well records repairs made in 1796.

Picking a vehicle
Two people with a case each ride well in a Camry or a Sonata, which seat four. A family with six large cases needs a Staria or a GMC Yukon XL, each with seven seats. The Yukon’s higher seat helps tired legs after a flight.
A Hiace takes up to eleven people and ten large cases. The Coaster suits 12 to 19 people. Above that, the Coach has 44 seats.

Where your driver meets you

Landing at Jeddah Airport? Your driver meets you inside arrivals, holding a board with your name. He waits until you are through, however late the plane lands.

Staying in Jeddah? He picks you up at the door of your hotel, flat or house. One fare covers any address in the city.
Then the car turns south.

Message us on WhatsApp, at any hour.
Jeddah to Makkah via Yalamlam miqat, step by step
- The drive south. From Jeddah it is about 160 km to the mosque at As-Sa’diyyah.
- Ihram at As-Sa’diyyah. Wash, change and pray. Your driver stays with the car.
- North to Makkah. About 130 km more.
- Drop-off. At prayer times some roads near the Haram, the Grand Mosque in Makkah, shut to cars. You then walk the last part from the nearest open road.

The fare already pays for this stop, with up to 45 minutes of waiting while you change and pray. If an older relative needs more time, say so when you book.

Yalamlam or the other two miqat trips
Three miqat trips leave from Jeddah. Al-Juhfah lies north near Rabigh, about 180 km from Makkah. Qarn al-Manazil lies north east of Makkah at As-Sayl al-Kabir. A taxi from Jeddah to Yalamlam is the one that heads south. Your scholar or group leader can tell you which, if any, fits your trip.
If you need no miqat at all, the Jeddah Airport to Makkah taxi takes the short, direct road.
Included in the Yalamlam fare
- Meeting you in arrivals, or at your door in Jeddah
- The miqat stop at As-Sa’diyyah
- Fuel, tolls and parking on the whole route
- Large cases and hand bags up to your vehicle’s limit
- Child seats for young children, free with the child’s age
You settle up with the driver in Makkah (how to pay). A stop you ask for on the day is added to the bill (how extras are charged). Wheelchairs and child seats are covered under luggage and comfort.

Before you set off south
The mosque in use today
Your driver goes to the mosque at As-Sa’diyyah, where Saudipedia says people enter ihram now. If your group plans another spot, tell us at booking.
Late landings
The fare does not change for a night landing. Rest in the car on the way south if you can.
Water and a snack
Pack them in a hand bag. The trip has two long legs, and the boot stays shut until Makkah.
