Overview

A Madinah to Yanbu taxi drives you about 240 km west, from your Madinah hotel to the Red Sea port of Yanbu. Your driver takes you to a hotel, a family home or your workplace there. On the way he stops once so you can pray and once so you can eat. It fits the day your Umrah is over and the coast is your next stop.

Going west from Madinah to the coast, a taxi to Yanbu starts at SAR 450 for the whole vehicle, one way. The road is about 240 km. Allow 3 to 4 hours from your hotel lobby to your Yanbu door. The driver stops once to pray and once to eat, inside the fare. You pay for your own food.

Yanbu in three parts

Yanbu is a governorate of Madinah Province on the Red Sea coast. Saudipedia counts it as the second largest in the province by number of people. Its towns fall into three parts.

  • Yanbu al-Bahr. The old town by the sea, in the north. Its history goes back about 2,500 years. Its old port was a stop on trade routes long ago.
  • Yanbu Industrial City. It lies on the coast, south of Yanbu al-Bahr. It is home to factories and oil refineries. Saudipedia calls its port the largest on the Red Sea coast for crude oil exports.
  • Yanbu al-Nakhl. A small village in the east of the governorate. It is known for date palm farms and water springs.

Your fare covers an address in Yanbu al-Bahr or Yanbu Industrial City. For Yanbu al-Nakhl or a place further out, send us a map pin and a person prices it in writing.

Fares from Madinah to Yanbu, per vehicle

You pay one price for the vehicle, not for each seat. It covers the one way drive from your Madinah hotel to your Yanbu address, with both breaks, in Saudi Riyal.

Which vehicle suits the trip to Yanbu

Travelling alone or as a couple? A Camry or a Sonata carries up to 4 people with 2 large cases and 2 hand bags. With six or seven people, pick the Staria or the GMC Yukon XL. Each has 7 seats and takes 6 large cases with 4 hand bags, and the Yukon XL rides higher.

The Hiace seats 11 and holds 10 large cases plus 10 hand bags. Work teams and big families can share the 19 seat Coaster. The 44 seat Coach takes a large case and a hand bag per seat. Bringing a wheelchair? Fold it, and the boot of a Staria or a Hiace takes it (wheelchairs).

Leaving your Madinah hotel

Come down to the lobby at the time we agree, because that is where the driver looks for you. If you run late, half an hour of waiting costs nothing (waiting rules).

At the Yanbu end, give the street name of your hotel, home or office, or drop a pin on the map.

Still in Madinah for a few days? A Madinah taxi covers the airport, the train station and ziyarat (visits to the city’s historic places).

How to book the Yanbu drive

  1. Share the Yanbu address. A map pin works best for homes and work sites.
  2. List the travellers. Say how many adults, children and large cases.
  3. Agree the fare. The price comes back in writing on WhatsApp.
  4. Be in the lobby on time. The driver’s name and number reach you first.

The drive west to the coast

  1. Hotel door in Madinah. The cases go in the boot, and you set off west.
  2. Across to the sea. There are about 240 km of road between the two cities.
  3. Two breaks. One is to pray and one is for food. Say when you would like them.
  4. Arrival in Yanbu. The driver brings you to the door you gave us.

Yanbu or Badr, both west of Madinah

Both towns lie west of Madinah, inside Madinah Province. Saudipedia says Badr Governorate borders Yanbu to the south. The Madinah to Badr day trip brings you back to your Madinah hotel the same day.

The Yanbu drive is one way, and the ride ends at your Yanbu address. Pick Badr to see the battle sites and come back. Pick Yanbu when you are moving on to the coast.

Inside the Yanbu fare

  • Your hotel lobby in Madinah as the start
  • An address in Yanbu al-Bahr or Yanbu Industrial City as the end
  • One break to pray and one to eat (you buy your own food)
  • Fuel, road tolls and parking

Children ride in a free child seat if we know their ages (child seats). You hand the fare to the driver in Yanbu, after the ride (how to pay). If your plans change, read changing or cancelling.

Tips for the road to Yanbu

One last prayer in Madinah

If you want one more prayer at the Prophet’s Mosque, set the pick-up time after it.

Sea air

Saudipedia says the air in Yanbu can reach 94 percent humidity in September. It can feel wet and heavy when you step out of the car.

Keep things close

The cases ride in the boot, so keep medicine and phone chargers in your hand bag.
