Overview
A Madinah Airport to Makkah taxi meets you inside arrivals at Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport (MED). It drives you about 450 km south to your hotel in Makkah, with no night in Madinah first. On the way, it stops at Dhul Hulayfah, the mosque where people leaving Madinah put on ihram (the Umrah state). Door to door, it is 4 hr 30 to 5 hr 30.
Landing in Madinah and going straight on to Makkah, the whole vehicle costs from SAR 450. The road is about 450 km. Allow 4 hr 30 to 5 hr 30. The stop at Dhul Hulayfah and the rest stops are part of that time, and part of the fare.
Madinah Airport to Makkah fares by vehicle
Prices are in Saudi Riyal and pay for one vehicle from the airport to your Makkah hotel. The stop at Dhul Hulayfah is part of it.

Picking a vehicle for the airport and the long drive
With one case each, a pair of travellers rides well in a Camry or a Sonata. A family of five to seven, with full cases from the flight, is better in the Staria. Its sliding doors help when you get out to change at the miqat. The GMC Yukon XL also seats seven, with a higher seat.
Up to eleven people can travel together in the Hiace and change at the miqat as one group. For a mosque group or a large family, there is the Coaster or the Coach.
Which vehicle fits?

Meeting your driver at Madinah Airport

Put your flight number in your booking message, and we keep an eye on the flight. If it lands late, you still pay the same (airports and flights).

The car stays in the airport car park while the driver comes into the hall. He holds a card with your name and waits until you have your bags. Then he walks with you to the car and loads it.
After a long flight, some people prefer a night in Madinah first. For that plan, book the Madinah Airport to your hotel taxi, then the Madinah to Makkah taxi on another day.
Booking the ride from Madinah Airport
- Send your arrival. The flight, the day and your hotel in Makkah are all we need to start.
- Say who is coming. Tell us how many people and large cases, and if anyone is already in ihram.
- Get the fare in writing. We send it on WhatsApp, together with the vehicle.
- Meet your driver. We message you his name and number before your flight leaves.
Message us on WhatsApp, at any hour.
From the airport to the miqat, then south
- Madinah Airport. Bags in, seat belts on, and you leave the airport behind.
- Dhul Hulayfah. About 30 km from the airport, on the south west side of Madinah. You change and make your intention while the car waits.
- The long road south. About 425 km more to Makkah, with stops to pray and to rest.
- Your Makkah hotel. Close to the Haram, the Grand Mosque, cars are held back during prayers. The last part may be on foot, with the driver’s help for your cases.

Dhul Hulayfah is also called Abyar Ali. For people who come from Madinah, it is the miqat, the point where you must be in ihram before you reach Makkah. Read more on the Dhul Hulayfah page. The driver knows the way to the mosque. He leaves questions of religion to your group leader or a scholar, so ask them where to enter ihram after a flight.

Taxi or train from Madinah Airport
The Haramain, the fast train to Makkah, has no station at Madinah Airport. You would need a ride to the Madinah station first, and another from the Makkah station to your hotel. You would also need to plan where to enter ihram. A taxi from the airport does the whole trip in one car, with the miqat stop on the way.
What the fare pays for
- Waiting in the arrivals hall, however long the plane and the bags take
- The stop at Dhul Hulayfah, long enough to change and say your intention
- Rest stops on the drive south
- Fuel, tolls and parking
If your group needs a longer stop at the miqat, say so when you book. An extra stop that you ask for on the day is charged on top (how extras are charged).

Tips for this transfer
Your ihram cloths
Pack them in a hand bag that stays with you, not in a case in the boot.
Older passengers
A long flight and a long drive in one day are tiring. Ask for extra rest stops, or split the trip over two days.
Night arrivals
If you land late, you reach Makkah in the small hours. Ask your hotel in Makkah how early you can check in.
