Overview
Staying in Makkah and planning another Umrah? First you need to be in ihram, the state of Umrah. For men, that means two white cloths. People already in the city usually step just outside the Haram, the sacred area around Makkah, to put it on. No miqat, the set point for ihram on the roads into Makkah, lies inside the city. So you can book two return trips. One goes to Masjid Ayesha at Tan’eem. The other goes to Masjid Ji’ranah, also spelled Ju’ranah, a mosque some 30 km out.
For a second Umrah, people staying in Makkah usually put on ihram just outside the Haram area. Masjid Ayesha at Tan’eem lies 7.5 km north of the Grand Mosque by road, and a return taxi starts at SAR 100. Masjid Ji’ranah is about 30 km away, from SAR 150. Each fare covers the whole vehicle and the wait.
Masjid Ayesha or Ji’ranah, side by side
| Masjid Ayesha (Tan’eem) | Masjid Ji’ranah | |
|---|---|---|
| From the Grand Mosque | About 7.5 km by road | About 30 km by road |
| The round trip | About 15 km | About 60 km |
| Time, there and back | 45 min to 1 hr 15 | 1 hr 30 to 2 hrs |
| Return fare, whole vehicle | From SAR 100 | From SAR 150 |
| Wait at the mosque | 30 minutes in the fare | Time to change and pray, in the fare |
Masjid Ayesha is closer, so the trip is shorter. It sits beside the Madinah road, with parking, wash rooms and shops that sell ihram cloths. Ji’ranah is further out of the city. Which of the two is right for you is a question for your scholar or group leader. We give you the ride and the wait.

Is there a miqat inside Makkah?
No. There are five miqat points, set in the time of the Prophet, peace be upon him. In no special order: Dhat Irq, Yalamlam, al-Juhfah, Qarn al-Manazil and Dhul Hulayfah. All of them are far outside Makkah.
People who are already in Makkah usually do not go back to one of them for Umrah. They go out past the Haram boundary instead. Saudipedia, the Saudi national encyclopedia, names Tan’eem and Ji’ranah as places where this is done. Whether this fits your case is a question for a scholar.

How a miqat trip from Makkah works
- Book a time. On WhatsApp, give us the hotel name and a start time. The hours after Isha are the busiest at the mosques.
- Meet in the lobby. Your hotel is where the trip starts.
- Change and pray. He waits while you put on ihram and pray.
- Go back. He drives you back to your hotel.
The driver is paid once you are back (how payment works). If you need longer than the wait in the fare, extra time is billed by the hour (how waiting is charged).
